So Ralph Lauren really took a theme and ran with it. For spring, the Bronx-born designer took a trip to his RRL ranch and never looked back. Think suede, think fringe, think bedazzled suede fringed pants. Think everything, really - from ruffled coats to white blouses with leg-of-lamb sleeves to belts with bull-skull buckles - that a very fancy and wealthy cowgirl would wear. On the ranch at least. In the city, she’d opt for a silver beaded slip dress or gown, with or without the weathered leather belt.

Isaac Mizrahi, on the other hand, pared things down considerably. Instead of the exuberant prints and big, poufy shapes he sometimes uses, he kept his parade of dresses minimal, long and lean. Floral prints in whispery soft shades got a delicate sheer overlay. The day’s shows wrapped up a very nonexclusive Fashion Week, with runways live-streaming online. A good week, to be sure, for showing that fashion, especially in New York, is for everyone.
